Conference Overview: Dr. Sean Pridgeon and Dr. Susan Scott will provide an overview of current trends in healthcare workplace violence, highlighting the latest evidence-based prevention strategies. They will discuss solution-focused approaches and provide guidance on effectively supporting victims of workplace violence.

Dr. Sean Pridgeon is the Director of Professional Practice for the Department of Nursing at MU Health Care. He started at MU Health Care in 2008 as a graduate nurse in critical care. He is also a Major in the United States Army Reserves serving as a critical care nurse. He co-leads MU Healthcare's workplace violence programs supported by Shanon Fucik as its executive leader.
Sean resides in Fayette, MO with his wife Amia and 4 children. He enjoys serving the communities that have supported and grown him. He became a nursing leader to help improve the wellbeing of nurses, the people who choose to serve others.
Susan D. Scott, PhD, RN, CPPS, FAAN
Nurse Scientist
University of Missouri Health Care
Dr. Scott has practiced the art and science of nursing in various clinical settings, including Neonatal ICU, Neonatal/Pediatric critical care transport, ambulatory pediatrics, risk management, and patient safety. She currently works as a Nurse Scientist at the University of Missouri Health Care. Through her pioneering research on the second victim phenomenon, Dr. Scott helped launch the first-if-its-kind peer to peer support network, known as the forYOU Team. As a clinically based researcher, she specializes in healthcare workforce well-being and creating holistic institutional support networks for clinicians. Dr. Scott has globally transformed the understanding of the second victim phenomenon, offering knowledge to drive effective strategies for individuals and institutions. Dr. Scott has partnered with agencies such as the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the American Hospital Association, The Joint Commission, and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement to ensure that comprehensive support interventions are available to healthcare workers worldwide.

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by AXIS Medical Education and the MHA Health Institute.
