The "Voting 101 for Nurse Leaders" presentation will include the following areas: voting rights and voter registration, voting procedures in Missouri, voting opportunities for 12-hour shift nurses, supporting patients who are hospitalized and want to vote, and nonpartisan resources that are available for voter and voting education.
After the webinar, attendees will be able to:
- Formulate a voting plan that fits their work and family schedule
- Explain voter rights and procedures to patients who are hospitalized
Speaker
Joan Gentry grew up in Van Buren, Missouri, received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri and a master’s degree from Missouri State University (formerly Southwest Missouri State University). She is a retired Springfield Public School middle school science teacher. Joan and her husband live in Springfield, Missouri.
As a member of the League of Women Voters of Southwest Missouri, Joan serves on the board, chairs the Voter
Service Action Committee and is a member of the Observer Corps. As voter service chair, she is actively involved in voter registration and education. She is also on the board of the League of Women Voters of Missouri.
Joan is a member of the Springfield National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. She was honored to be a recipient of the W.E.B. Du Bois Education Award during the NAACP 2023 Freedom Fund Banquet.
